About our internship scheme Interns at the British Red Cross are highly valued for the skills and energy they bring. The successful candidate will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during the course of their placement. There may be some ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of activity. Your role as an intern will help make a great contribution to the work of the British Red Cross. You will takeresponsibility for achieving specific objectives that are agreed with you within one of the various departments across the UK. You will have a real responsibility and place inthe department, bringing some of your skills and experience to the role; youwill also have the chance to develop workplace skills. About this role The Emergencies Team is part of the International Directorate and plays a key role leading and supporting British Red Crossresponses to emergencies globally. The team also has a responsibility forensuring operational readiness, standardising response procedures, andcoordinating with other Movement actors on key initiatives, particularly with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The Emergencies Team has an opportunity for an intern to support in a wide variety of tasks. This may be supporting day-to-day business such as reviewing and improving our internal Disaster Management Standard Operating Procedures, supporting on processes that aim to improve our emergency response offer, and/or contributing to the strengthening of BRC's general operationalreadiness. Due to the nature of our work, priorities may change quickly and sothe role may also include supporting on the processes that enable responses to emergencies such as funding applications, delegate deployments, and situational reports. This role would suit an individual interested in working in the humanitarian sector who is energetic, enthusiastic and flexible, with the ability to work to short deadlines and prioritise an ever-changingworkload. Reference To be provided to the Volunteer Mobilisation team. Location UK Office, Moorfields, London Department ESTA (Emergencies, Surge, and Technical Advisory) Reporting to Response Officer, Emergencies Team. Hours This internship will last a maximum of 12 weeks volunteering of between 2-4 days a week. The volunteering hours are negotiable to balance yourneeds and what can be achieved in the role. Tasks include > Support in updating and improving BRC's Disaster Management Standard Operating Procedures (DMSOPs). > Support in maintaining a strong level of operational readiness to ensure the capacity for BRC to respond to emergencies as efficiently and effectively as possible. > Writing 'Crisis Hotspots,' the monthly circulation from the Emergencies Team. It pulls together information from various monitoring resources, to draw attention to recent emergency developments, crises that have fallen off the radar, and upcoming events and forecasts that may impact our work. > Support to ongoing and new emergencies through contributingto a range of tasks including compiling situation reports, writing funding applications, and involvement in delegate briefing and debriefing. Minimum Induction - within 3 weeks Has been introduced to Line Manager and role description discussed Has been given a H&S briefing pertinent to the site they will normally be operating from Has been familiarised with any equipment required to carry out the role Has received any workwear, if required for the role Has had a one-to-one induction with the Placements Coordinator British Red Cross Foundation Course e-module (IN-FCEL) Full Induction - within 3 months Has attended an Intern Welcome Workshop or attended Foundation Training classroomworkshops dependant on the nature of the role.
