A core part of Council’s youth strategy is the Visible Ink program, which provides free access to creative spaces, equipment and staff support for young people aged 12 to 25 years. As a casual Youth Support Officer you will support the operation of Council’s Visible Ink Youth Hub based in Fortitude Valley. On varied shifts, you will interact with young people to offer support around creative activities, providing guidance on the use of equipment and facilities. You will be responsible for working collaboratively with our Visible Ink Coordinator on day-to-day processes including bookings, access for after hours, handling customer enquiries and providing general project support. You will also be doing regular checks on our space and equipment, as well as supporting the team with youth events if required. To be successful in this position you will need: previous experience working with young people or within the youth services sector a demonstrated track record in supporting and maintaining relationships with young people the ability to build rapport with a variety of stakeholders sound IT skills strong problem-solving skills including the ability to meet goals and identify improvements a supportive, peer mentoring approach; and a current “C” class driver’s licence. Qualifications/accreditation relating to Youth Mental Health First Aid would be highly desirable - this role may deal with incidents and support requirements for young people who access our Visible Ink space.
