Do you like being outdoors in beautiful Colorado? Boulder County Parks & Open Space has openings for three Education and Outreach Seasonal positions! The work of the Education and Outreach Seasonal position primarily focuses on being an ambassador for Boulder County by communicating the department's management activities, and information about local natural resources and recreation opportunities. Duties will include such activities as: working with volunteers, staffing special events and performing park patrol. This is a full-time, seasonal, 40 hours per week position with Boulder County Parks & Open Space. This position will work Wednesdays through Sundays with some Friday and Saturday evenings during summer months. The position will report to the Parks and Open Space office in Longmont, Colorado. Hiring Salary: $17.42 hourly Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-Exempt (eligible for overtime). EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Conduct informal interpretation in open space areas by hiking trails and staffing trailhead displays (all day in the parks on Saturdays and Sundays) Staff special events, local town festivals, and department museums Drive volunteers in 12-passenger vans (training provided) to help lead forestry, seed collection, planting, trail maintenance, and other open space projects Create displays for festival booths and special events using graphic design software according to departmental standards Assist with park visitor survey study at open space properties Occasionally present environmental education and living history programs to public and school groups May be reassigned in emergency situations REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS PLEASE NOTE: When submitting your application be sure to include all relevant education and experience, as applications are screened based on the qualifications listed in this position announcement. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Two years of college course work in environmental education, natural resource management, ecology, volunteer management, or related field, and/or One season of experience directly related to volunteer management, environmental education, or resource management DRIVER'S LICENSE: Applicants must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a current motor vehicle record at interview BACKGROUND CHECK: This is a position regularly interacts with youth and other potentially vulnerable people, post-offer background check is required. A job offer is contingent on passing a criminal background investigation. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Passing a pre-employment physical examination Position requires wearing a uniform SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of Front Range flora and fauna and ecosystems (preferred) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work up to 8 hours outdoors, hiking open space trails, leading volunteer work projects, staff booth at festival or park trailhead Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet; occasional walking, hiking and standing Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard, office equipment, and motor vehicle Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information Speech for communication Hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public Boulder County is a family-friendly workplace dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment for all employees.
