Job Title: Logistics & Transportation Manager Location: Tustin, CA Job Description The Logistics & Transportation Manager will work with our Logistics and Transportation team to manage all aspects of our freight and transportation process. This position will also review our company's inbound freight expenses to find ways to lower costs and improve on delivery speed. This will include managing relationships between steam ship lines, freight forwarders, and internal/external drayage providers. Must thrive in a growth and development environment and isn’t afraid to take calculated risks. The individual will report to the Associate Director of Transportation. Responsibilities Manage and control overall integrity and profitability of the logistics and transportation of our products Manage and control shipping lines and freight forwarder performance through a defined process Manage a team and effectively hold accountability to their performance Promote a culture and working environment that embraces growth and development to meet the needs of our employees and customers, resulting in high employee engagement and overall customer satisfaction Develop and own DOT compliance program, as well as managing a team of company drivers Mentor employees to deliver quality execution and provide change management regarding changing policies, expectations, and procedures Manage and revise best practice SOP materials and review semi-annually Play major role in recruitment, onboarding, and continuous development of best in class Ocean Import talent Educate employees to have deeper discussions with clients regarding current market conditions and other current events impacting the trade community Serve as a role model in developing relationships with ocean import, origin counterparts, and destination partners critical to the transportation and supply chain systems Constant availability for operational and on-call business needs Responsible for quality performance against record keeping, database, and importer instruction standards Facilitate development of internal Customs clearance team Making sure we are getting the best rates from forwarders and carriers by fully understanding the market and staying up to date on market conditions Perform administrative and financial functions associated with transportation and ocean import/export product Participate in all aspects of transportation and logistics pricing Analyze freight costs and provide recommendations on ways to reduce freight costs, including analysis on ocean freight, customs clearance, drayage, transloading, and intermodal Manage and ensure timely delivery of import containers from origin locations Ensure proper invoicing and adherence to current freight contracts by freight forwarders and carriers Work with drayage providers and receiving teams of each warehouse to ensure on-time deliveries Work with the demanding planning team and warehouse managers to monitor inbound volume and warehouse capacity Directly manage, or facilitate, major projects with high company visibility and impacts Optimize inventory allocation between distribution centers Use modeling to determine forward-looking model on freight costs Qualifications 4-year undergraduate degree, B.S. in Business or Supply Chain preferred 7 – 10 years of experience in transportation and ocean freight 3 years minimum experience at management level in supply chain, transportation, or freight forwarding business and can build a team from scratch after assessing the needs Required prior experience directly building and managing a transportation operation (port drayage, domestic moves, OTR) Experience directly dealing with DOT regulations and compliance Prior experience directly managing company drivers (ability to manage driver qualification files and keep them in compliance) Prior working knowledge of port drayage processes as well as requirements for port entry (TWIC cards, port truck registration, etc) Prior experience negotiating trucking contracts and management of trucking vendors CDL driver recruitment Advanced Excel knowledge Full knowledge of negotiation of inbound freight and port drayage contracts Ecommerce or distribution experience preferred Track record of building strong customer relationships Provide examples of steps taken to improve business process or solution design for clients in previous experience Proven flexibility & adaptability to product and market needs Time management and organizational skills High emotional intelligence, situational leadership, and coaching techniques Excellent written & verbal communication skills Benefits & Perks: Medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage Employee Assistance Program 401k Plan Vacation/Paid time off Paid Holidays and Sick Days Onsite Gym Arcade Games Delicious Snacks & Drinks Generous Employee Discount And, lots of FUN events!
