If so, then we would like you to join us as a Placement Officer in the Fostering Team where your role will be to find high quality, carefully selected placements for children and young people who are unable to live with their families. When children and young people are unable to remain living with their birth families it is important that the Local Authority find them the right placement at the right time to ensure that their needs are met and positive outcomes promoted. As a Placement Officer, you will hold a crucial role managing and organising referrals and providing carefully matched placements in accordance with the child’s plan. This role involves working closely with Social Workers, in house foster carers, and independent providers of foster care, residential care and colleagues across children’s services, education and health to ensure that placements are carefully matched according to children’s needs. The ability to work independently and at pace is essential as you will be working within tight deadlines responding to both placed and emergency placement requests. As a Placement Officer you will enjoy developing positive relationships with foster carers and placement providers and will be able to share information of a sensitive nature relating to children’s needs to enable carers to understand and respond appropriately to these so you will need to be resilient while maintaining an empathetic approach. As a Placement Officer, you will need to have experience of working in a fostering setting as a placements or commissioning officer and have working knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation pertaining to Fostering. Experience of working with Looked After Children is also essential. You will be able to demonstrate your experience of working with and establishing positive relationships with foster carers and placement providers. This is a great opportunity for someone to be instrumental in identifying placements that offer children the stability and nurturing care they require and driving the Local Authority’s Sufficiency Strategy. This post will work in partnership with commissioning colleagues to assist in contract monitoring and quality assurance work and will lead on developing effective systems and processes to ensure that high quality placements are utilised that offer value for money and improve outcomes for children and young people.
