Job Title: Financial Controller (Syndicate and BIDAC) - 18 month fixed-term contract covering an internal secondment Division: Finance - Financial Reporting Reports To: As per Beazley’s organisation chart Key Relationships: Finance Teams (London & Dublin), Banks, Actuaries, Underwriters, Compliance and Auditors. Job Summary: Management of the finance team responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate accounting ledgers for six Lloyd’s syndicates and a direct re/insurance company with five branches across Europe, providing analysis and information to the Regulatory and Group Reporting Teams and preparing the annual financial statements. Key Responsibilities: Team Manage the workload and development of a team of 8 part-qualified/qualified accountants. Develop a structure to cross train within the team to provide resilience. Perform interim and annual appraisals for team members, including goal setting and performance feedback. Close process & control Responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate accounting ledgers. Responsible for ensuring the “Dashboards” (balance sheet and bank reconciliation summaries) are updated on time and to the correct standard. Review and sign off of bank / balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis. Prepare monthly/quarterly reporting packages, including variance analysis to prior year/quarter and forecast positions. Pro-actively targeting process improvement via structured reviews. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting by applying a robust syndicate balance sheet review process, identifying and resolving any issues on a timely basis. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls ensuring data audit trails to source systems are understood. Analytical review of syndicate financial information including close liaison with the Management Information Team. Financial Reporting Manage external and internal audit relationships. Preparing annual/half yearly audit papers and managing the PBC list liaising with both external and internal audit teams as required. Oversee the preparation of, and review, the annual audited financial statements.. Liaise with the Group Reporting Team to ensure all analysis and information is made available to support the Group consolidation. Liaise with the Regulatory Reporting Team to ensure all necessary Lloyd’s and CBI reporting information is provided. Research technical accounting issues to ensure ledger/reporting compliance. Other Liaise with underwriters, actuaries, auditors, senior management and/or 3rd parties as appropriate. Contribute to ongoing development of the group reporting and data management system (FDM) working directly with the IT teams to improve finance processes. Assess the impact to finance for changes proposed as the business continues to grow. Other projects as required. This may include, amongst others, Beazley’s underwriting control standards, Beazley’s claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management. Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups. Personal Specification: Education and Qualifications Qualified accountant. University degree. Skills and Abilities Proven ability to lead and manage a team. Computer skills – Excel/MS Office. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise. Must be able to work as part of a team. Knowledge and Experience Knowledge of non – life insurance company and Lloyds accounting is preferred but not essential. Experience of working in a technical accounting environment. Experience of multiple currency ledgers. Experience of operating in a complex data and systems control environment.
