Post Title: Renal Transplant Scientific Officer Post Status: Permanent Department: TUN Location: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 Reports to: TUN Business Manager Salary: Appointment will be made on the Medical Scientist, Senior (with FAMLS) (€50,838 - €67,986) at a point in line with Government pay policy. Hours of work: Full-Time 37 hours Closing Date: 12 Noon on 20/02/2020 Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Quality / Data Collection 1. Contribute to the development and lead on the implementation of best practice and improvement plans and strategies in relation transplant data collection 2. To collate all necessary data relating from the transplant from both the donor and recipient 3. To ensure that relevant information is updated and maintained on the renal transplant registry database 4. To ensure information is provided to appropriate parties and agent approved and directed by and in liaison with Clinical Director, Lead Transplant Surgeon and Lead Nephrologist 5. Liaise with NHISSOT laboratory director and scientists to ensure that appropriate data pertaining to transplant laboratory data is maintained in data base, and report made available to transplant medical scientists. 6. To liaise with renal pathology service to ensure that appropriate transplant pathology data is maintained in data base and to produce transplant pathology reports as requested. 7. To collect and collate such data as is required at intervals during the first year of the graft and subsequently at all ‘graft’ anniversaries. 8. To liase with Statistician to ensure that the data on the transplant registries and dialysis data is complete. 9. Any issues of concern arising from the data collected should be brought to the attention of Clinical Director. 10. To liaise with Medical Scientists, NHISSOT service as necessary. 11. Ensure that transplant data base is maintained consistent with relevant hospital policies and Irish legislation and in particular data protection act. 12. Liaise with transplant coordinators to record data as directed by them that are relevant to transplant outcome or transplant activity. Produce reports as requested pertaining to donor activity. 13. Maintain a data base of live donors and complications following live donor surgery Communication 1. To foster close cooperation and develop appropriate communication channels with dialysis units / Consultant Nephrologists nationally 2. To liaise with ODTI and provide reports as requested Living Donor Registry 1. To produce a living donor outcome annual report on an annual basis in conjunction with the transplant statistician and the Beaumont transplant team. 2. To liase with regional renal units to maintain and audit living donor data base and encourage attendance at living donor clinics. Audit & Research 1. To collaborate with Council Europe, UNOS, IPTR, CTR Registries 2. To collaborate with Clinical Director and other members of transplant team on appropriate research projects which may have an impact on graft survival or transplant outcomes. 3. To be responsible for coordination of an annual report of patients on the transplant registry (and interim reports as required) Other tasks 1. Coordinate recording of outcomes at the Renal Biopsy MDT meeting a. Make printed patient specific templates to be completed by Registrar/SHO at meeting b. Make 2 copies of completed form i. Original kept in file i RTSO office ii. Copy for patients chart – ideally should be scanned onto PIPE or EMED iii. Copy to Renal Pathology 2. Coordinate outcome information including previous month RIP s of patients with functioning transplants for Transplant Audit Meeting (2nd Friday 9am) 3. Send list of all recently discovered RIPs of Transplant patients to deathcerts and to H&I lab so they can update their records Selection Criteria: Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria. Mandatory 1. A clinical background 2. Possess Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (FAMLS) or be eligible for fellowship 3. Be a member of the Medical, Nursing or Health and Social Care Profession 4. Possess the relevant qualifications approved to first line management of that grade as determined by the Department of Health and Children. 5. Ability to analyse highly complex data and formulate reports Qualifications 1. Educated to degree level or equivalent. 2. Masters in related field Experience Medical, Nursing or scientific experience in transplantation medicine. Special Knowledge 1. Comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of Transplant service. 2. Skills in excel, access data base, and PowerPoint presentations. 3. Ability to develop working relationships with Clinicians throughout the country. Desirable: Able to develop effective working partnership skills within and beyond the employing organisation.
