Part-Time (2 days/per week) for 12 months SCHCADS CDW Class 2b Lvl 4 or 5 (depending on qualifications and experience) Generous Salary Packaging West Heidelberg Community Legal Service (WHCLS) at Banyule Community Health is seeking to employ a part-time (2 days per week) Legal Project Officer - Social Housing Research for an exciting new legal research project. You will be leading a project aimed at researching the changing composition of social housing in Victoria and understanding its impact on tenants' rights. The Legal Project Officer - Social Housing Research will work collaboratively with other staff as well as the principal lawyer to deliver the objectives of this important Victoria Law Foundation funded project. The role will involve housing, VCAT and tenancy data collection, in collaboration with project partners; literature and legislative review and comparison; reporting results and community sector engagement. The key responsibilities for this position include: Undertake review of available relevant research, including consulting with academics where appropriate In collaboration with project partners, develop data collection tools Undertake some data collection at VCAT and assist the Principal Lawyer to oversee and co-ordinate the activities of a small team of law student volunteers also engaged in data collection at VCAT Collate and analyse project data, identifying trends and systemic issues relevant to tenants' rights Utilise project data as well as other relevant policy, regulatory or legislative, research material to develop an understanding about the impact of the changing composition of social housing on tenants' rights The key skills required for this role include: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated competency in the use of IT systems to effectively achieve the requirements of the role Attention to detail and capacity to identify systemic issues Awareness of the causes and impact of housing insecurity and homelessness Familiarity with the Australian legal system, tenancy law, Tribunal processes and the legal assistance sector A relevant tertiary qualification (applicants in the final stages of attainment of a relevant tertiary qualification may also be considered) Company Profile: WHCLS at Banyule Community Health is a unique fully integrated health-justice partnership based on the social model of health.
