Buying glasses should be one of life’s pleasures. And we’ve created a formula to make it one. We start with a process that’s clever and honest. We use it to craft eyewear that’s both beautiful and affordable. And we hire people who are passionate and genuine. It’s not rocket science. It’s just caring enough about what you’re doing to do it right. We strive to deliver fantastic eyewear frames at a reasonable price, backed up by great service. Our vision is to right the wrongs of the eyewear industry - positively and permanently; and whilst we're at it, we hope to empower individuality and self-expression through our beautiful, affordable eyewear, inviting stores and incredible people. Founded in Bondi Beach in 2012, we’ve grown into an incredible team across more than 32 boutiques in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth, New Zealand and the UK and Canada. Our Response to COVID-19 Since May 19th, we have introduced the following measures into our store operations to ensure safety is top of mind for both customers and our team. All customers, patients and staff are required to wear a mask while in-store. We are happy to provide a mask to any customer who does not have their own. Abiding by social distancing rules in-store. Reduced store capacity. Disinfecting all worn frames after use. Booking eye exams with additional time to allow for no customer crossover and proper disinfection of equipment. PPE provided for staff. Hand sanitizing and cleaning stations around the store. Screening patients before eye exams. We are so excited to have you in store and hope to see you soon! The Bailey Nelson Team We’re Growing in 2021 What We Do Our focus is delivering the best value for money in the world. Our design vision is to create beautiful, modern and iconic products made with the best and most responsible materials that never go out of style. By overseeing every step of the process, we ensure that we only ever produce products that we’d be proud to show our friends and family. Designed in-house, in Sydney Every Bailey Nelson frame is designed in-house, where our team puts together mood boards for inspiration, sketches initial designs, and maps out product details for prototyping. We source the highest quality materials Although we’re obsessive about making beautiful products, function always comes before fashion. From custom-designed cellulose acetate to ultra-lightweight titanium, we use nothing but premium materials for our frames. Every frame is assembled by hand and made just for your eyes. We custom-cut and polish the edges of your lenses, which have been treated with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coatings to ensure strength, clarity and comfort. We're not your ordinary eyewear brand By going direct from design to manufacture and ultimately into your hands, we cut our cost margin down in comparison to industry standards. We make sure you get what you pay for and more so that you leave with a smile from eye to eye. Who We Are Founded in Bondi Beach in 2012, Bailey Nelson has quickly grown into a global brand lead by an incredible team with boutiques in Australia, London, Canada and New Zealand. Hear from our Independent Doctors of Optometry At Bailey Nelson, we offer a number of perks and benefits for our awesome Doctors. Optometrists - Doctor spotlight: Dr. Desiree Vanderstar Des: I’m a native Calgarian. I graduated from Midwestern University, Arizona College of Optometry in 2017 followed by a Peds/VT residence at SCO. While working at a VT oriented private practice in Calgary I started working extra days as an associate at the Kensington Bailey Nelson. I found myself truly enjoying myself at work and in October 2019 when the opportunity arose to become the Lead OD at Chinook, I took it. This has been a really positive decision in my life & I have been very happy since. In my spare time I enjoy trying new restaurants, reading a good book or spending time with my family and friends. Tell me about this positive change, what makes you love working here? Des: There is the Culture. It is a great culture of inclusivity. BN encourages me to be myself at all times, which has been wonderful. There is a feeling of Community. Having a large number of authentic & personable colleagues is a good feeling. It's nice to have other OD's in a parallel role to talk to about work & life. We have had several social events (previously to COVID) and it’s been really enjoyable to get to know the Calgary OD's. I look forward to when we can get back to doing this again! I feel Supported. The feeling that I'm not an island because of the support from BN’s support office & the support from my local team. We each have goals & work in tandem to achieve them. I really appreciate when I hear them asking customers if they've had a recent eye exam. It's awesome to know they also view customers as potential patients for me. Lastly, BN is constantly trying to improve & grow.... because of this, I feel like feedback is taken seriously, valued and used to make positive change. Why Should You Work For Us At Bailey Nelson, we offer a number of perks and benefits for our awesome employees. Store Manager & Optician - Employee spotlight: Kayla Constantin What made you want to join BN? -I wanted to join BN because I love Optical but at my previous job I felt like I couldn't be fully myself. I had to dress a certain way, I had to interact with patients in a way that didn't feel natural to me and it felt extremely pushy, just way too clinical and that's not me. I read the "Who we are" and "How we do it" portion of the website and I was instantly invested. What's been the best experience for you in working at BN? -The best experience for me working at BN hands down, even to this day, is telling the patient their total cost and seeing their reaction. Seeing the patients have a physical reaction and go "WHAT?!" brings me so much joy and happiness. What's been the biggest challenge here? -The biggest challenge for me, speaking from the Optician perspective, is that I have to really validate BN and fully educate our patients on our product, our process and our Optometrists to get the buy in from them. I feel that because we are not as recognized as a key player in the Optical industry yet, we are not taken seriously or that our product is inferior to the more well known players because of our pricing and our process of inhouse design. Why do you love your career as an Optician & SM? -Its the best of both worlds. I get to assist patients with their eye care needs which is unique to each individual, so it's always different. Then as an SM I get to guide a team to achieve store success as well as individual success because at BN I feel as though this is my business. I strive to be impactful, supportive and always connecting with others and I truly feel that I get to achieve all of those in my career. Why would someone want to come work here? (I asked my girls this question because they are always telling me how much they love it here, I'll include it here) -BN feels like a lifestyle brand. You can be knowledgeable, fashionable, and feel guilt free when you are selling glasses. -Managers care about you personally and professionally, they want to see you grow and succeed. Compared to other jobs, BN has a lot of opportunity to grow within a company that you love. -Welcoming supportive community that promotes individuality, you can be yourself but you can also be loved for being yourself. -For me, I genuinely love coming to work every day. I know it's going to be a fun day with tons of laughing, we are going to listen to good music and make our patients join in on the fun. I am challenged, engaged and I feel supported from all levels within BN. I also really enjoy that there is transparency within the company and everyone on all levels of BN is accessible if you ever need. What's your favourite pair of BN's? Adler in Cookies and Cream!!!!!! Assistant Store Manager & Licensed Optician - Employee spotlight: Farhiya Abti What made you want to join BN? I joined BN because I really connected with the company's values and the complete experience we offer to every customer. What's been the best experience for you in working at BN? What I value most working for BN is the wonderful group of people that I work with. I have been able to constantly grow and develop my skills through collaboration with my colleagues. What's been the biggest challenge here? My biggest personal challenge in my time spent here has been stepping into a leadership role. Learning to widen my perspective beyond my role as an Optician and aiding in the development of my team as well. Why do you love your career as an Optician & ASM? I love the feeling of being able to help people in such an impactful way as improving their vision. As well as connecting with our customers from all walks of life. Why would someone want to come work here? We really are a family here at BN. BN truely values and supports their team members and invests in their development. What's your favourite pair of BN's? My favorite pair of BN's has to be my Theodore in C231. As someone who is always changing my style, I love the versatility of this pair. It's a timeless style that's got a little something for everyone. Meet our Co-Founder, Nick Perry Nick Perry’s journey from Australian Farm Boy to world-travelling Bailey Nelson Co-Founder, all sparked from a less-than-stellar experience buying eyeglasses. Nick grew up in rural Australia and moved to the bright lights of Sydney looking to experience the big city and what it had to offer. Unfortunately for him though he found out straight away that he needed glasses, and all the money he had planned to spend enjoying university life went into buying a clunky pair of spectacles (not ideal). Secure, thriving and making his parents proud, Nick still had this quote from Richard Branson replaying over in his head: ‘If you want to start a business you should find an experience that you find painful and start there’. After another underwhelming visit to the optometrist, Nick and Pete, his equally educated friend, packed in their office jobs and they hit the beach with a vision for a new kind of eyewear experience. Fast forward half a decade, Nick arrives in Vancouver to help guide the international expansion of his once-fledgling dream. While he was in town, we sat down with him and he gave us a sense of how it must have felt for people to walk into he and Pete’s first Bondi location.
