Overview: Position: Software engineer Team Lead Contract: Permanent Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum Start date: ASAP We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong development skills who wants to join a growing team. You are up to date with new technologies and are interested in improving the online experience and performance of transactional websites and apps. You are an expert in your chosen discipline as well as being willing and able to learn new skills and technologies and use that knowledge at work. BMJ Technology is recruiting Senior Software Engineers to lead our development teams. You will be working on a number of high-profile website products that are implemented in Java, Javascript/HTML/CSS,. NET and Drupal, as well as Serverless applications deployed to the Cloud. This role is focused on the Java products and the Cloud, but experience and willingness to learn other technologies are a nice to have. You will be the technical expert in your team. You will be helping Engineering Managers in overseeing the product development, project estimation, application design and support. You will be involved in resource management and recruitment, ensuring that there are enough resources with the right skills in the team. Skills you will need to have: Works well in a collaborative environment A good communicator Comfortable in engaging with business users Keeps up to date with and is interested in whole life cycle best-practice Responsibilities: Lead product development team, encourage continual improvement Be the technical expert for the product/s assigned Champion the adoption of agile within the technology and business units within BMJ Proven track record as Scrum Master Encourage and facilitate industry best practices including test driven development (TDD), continuous integration and delivery, pair programming and behaviour driven development (BDD) Create a collaborative development environment, encouraging team-based decision making and adoption of standards & best practices Recognise skill shortages within the team and compensate for them with training or recruiting In collaboration with Engineering Managers and Scrum teams, agree standards and guidelines for design, development, testing, release and support Work with Engineering Managers and Operation teams in ensuring that our product’s system architecture are fit for purpose Qualifications: A strong developer in Java Have a good understanding of software development best practices, including design patterns and coding standards Experience developing commercial customer facing online products Experience in formal development methods. These include: testing frameworks, build management, source control management, change control management, and fault resolution management. Experience in Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Microservices Good communication skills, including spoken, written and when presenting Able to engage in debate without conflict Able to motivate the teams with praise and encouragement Technical Skills - extensive experience in five or more of the following is desirable: Cloud and Serverless computing, preferably AWS Spring Framework Spring Boot Unit Testing, such as JUnit or TestNg Deployment tool, preferably Jenkins Web Operations: Tomcat, Deployment, Infrastructure as code NoSQL databases specially Elasticsearch RDBMS, specifically PostgreSQL Build tool specially Gradle/Maven or equivalent Static program analysis HTTPS and web application security Authentication and Authorization framework such as SAML, OAuth 2, OpenId Connect, SSO and Federated Access Javascript including Bootstrap, JQuery, ReactJS, HTML5 and Responsive Web Design XML technologies: W3C Schema, Schematron, XPath, XSLT, XSL-FO, XQuery would be beneficial If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Tashan Chong-Kan on 0203 6555508 or email [email removed] Our Company BMJ is an £80 million company, employing approximately 500 people worldwide with its headquarters in London and key offices in China, India and the United States.
