Software Architect/Technical Lead 00068597 Software Architect/Technical Lead Would you like to work in an exciting and varied role within the Research & Technology (R&T) area of one of the UK’s Largest Defence Companies? We currently have a vacancy for a Software Architect/Technical Lead at our site in Warton. As a Software Architect/Technical Lead, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining technology roadmaps that define the product and capability technology requirements along with executing programmes of work to realise the roadmaps. You will be the Mission Systems Software Architect and will be required to provide objective leadership and direction to a small team of engineers. Consequently you will need to keep up to date with technology developments and trends through networking within and outside BAE Systems, and engagement with academia and Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This is an exciting role that will shape the future direction of Air Sector's uptake of increasingly complex systems, the software and products that embrace the use of automation, autonomy and artificial intelligence by fully understanding their technical benefits and drawbacks; you will take a lead role in defining the underpinning work needed to ensure that when applied they are done so safely and securely. This role offers Continued Professional Development for chartered engineers and support for those wishing to attain chartered status. Your main responsibilities as a Software Architect/Technical Lead will involve: Producing and maintaining technology topic packs (covering roadmaps, delivery, review and communication activities as well as business opportunity planning that support the future Air Sector product needs) that articulate anticipated Mission Systems software architecture developments over a 5-10 and 10+ year timescale. Managing the Mission Systems software architecting intellectual property within Air that has most benefit to the business, defining what it is and how/where it can be exploited to inform our technology planning and funding strategy. Actively contributing, leading and delivering on our external contract and internal programmes throughout their lifecycle. Working with the R&T Theme Leads and wider Air Sector business to identify domain technology gaps and appropriate remedial actions, and use this information to establish future Private Venture Investment Plans. Providing direct line management to a small team of R&T Engineers, together with encouraging a strong ‘virtual team’ culture among those involved in delivering R&T programmes; both through clear leadership, direction and regular two-way communication. Being the Mission Systems Software Architect and provide objective leadership, technical guidance and direction to Mission Systems activities. Your skills and qualifications: STEM degree or Relevant Experience You will be numerate; have ideally worked collaboratively with external parties developing concepts through to product release. Experience of mission system software architectures, mission management, safety & certification and automation & autonomy. Experience of implementing a system-of-systems approach, mission planning and human autonomy teaming would be desirable Exposure to the Engineering Life Cycle (Concept to Manufacture phase). Have proactively worked in a multi-company collaborative environment, setting direction by building consensus using persuasion and reasoned argument.
