Autism Nova Scotia Cape Breton Region Chapter 14 Glenwood Street, Sydney, Nova scotia, B1P 7G4 Competition No. 2020-002 UNDERSTANDING - ACCEPTANCE – INCLUSION The Cape Breton Region Chapter of Autism Nova Scotia is a non-for-profit organization that strives to build community capacity to enhance understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of families and individuals living with ASD across the province. Social & Community Inclusion Program Facilitator Part-Time 5 Hours per week Position: Commencing approximately late January 2020 and ending approximately late June 2020 with potential to re-start in September – December 2020 Flexible Schedule required- 5:45pm-8:15pm on 2 evenings per week. (Mondays and Wednesdays) Salary range: $11.55+ per hour Application deadline is February 14, 2020 at 11:59pm Social & Community Inclusion Program: The Social & Community Inclusion Program is designed to ensure a quality program that will help autistic individuals practice social skills, life skills, gain and maintain new friendships, and enjoy recreational activities, all while helping each participant live their lives to the fullest. The weekly 2 hour evening program will be offered on two separate evenings to two separate age groups. Mondays will host ages 6-13 years, and Wednesdays will host 14-21 years. Social programs will take place on site at our local centre as well as on outings within our community. What you’ll be doing… The Social & Community Inclusion Program facilitator shall act as a guardian and facilitator for the individual(s) assigned to his/her care during program hours. The program facilitator is responsible to ensure a safe, fun, active and engaged experience for participants. Ensuring all participants are treated with dignity and respect, making sure health and safety needs are met at all times. Never leave a participant unattended at centre or in community and be able to account for a participant’s whereabouts at all times. Keep up good communication with staff, parents and participants regarding program activities. Work as a team player to ensure centre is kept clean and in tidy order. Adhere to all other duties as assigned. Minimum experience: Experience working with people with autism First Aid certification or willingness to acquire Nonviolent crisis intervention or willingness to acquire Minimum skills and ability: · Open mind and experience working in group settings and diverse populations; Knowledge about autism and recreation. Excellent oral and written communication skills; Exhibit strong professional judgement; Ability to manage multiple personalities and opinions and ensure that everyone feels heard and valued; Calm, Professional and Adaptable; Able to work independently as well as in a group.
