Job Description This role will be starting in September 2020 Our Analysts play a key role at Merkle |Aquila, continually striving to make their clients superstars through analytical and evidence-led decision making. They deliver cutting edge, commercial analytics which make a difference for customers at the shelf edge. In the Graduate Analytical Consultant role, you will engage with clients and internal stakeholders in order to help understand their challenges. Graduate Analytical Consultants will work closely to support the Analytics team in the role to translate analytical requirements into technical objectives. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation to help achieve our Clients objectives through innovative solutions whilst using a variety of languages and software, in time leading their own workstream in a client facing role. Life as a Graduate Analytical Consultant at Merkle | Aquila We offer intensive practical training to help prepare you for your role in analytical consultancy and many of our graduates have the opportunity to spend time on client sites around the UK in the early stages of the programme to allow development of client facing skills. Graduate consultants also have the opportunity to develop outside of client responsibilities through supporting analytical charity work, entering team Kaggle (our tech hub) competitions and attending industry events. Once you are more established, we will look for you to drive our best-practice and processes in your area of expertise through our technical guru roles and analytics community. Alongside your client responsibilities there are many opportunities to get involved in existing internal initiatives or even start up your own. On a Day To Day Basis - What Do I Do? Great question, we get asked this a lot! In terms of a classic day as a consultant, every day is different. Here are just a few things you might get up to: Training. This is a large part of the role when you join. You'll get a mentor from day 1 and our specific grad team will support you as you move through our intensive 4 week programme. Tools and Programmes. Depending on your client and their project you could be working on a wide variety of software and computing languages, anything from Python, R to SQL. Consulting. In this role you will engage with clients; understand their challenges; and suggest and deliver innovative analytics that help shape their businesses. Projects. You could be working on a project to understand and calculate the value of marketing, environmental and competitor activity at a macro level in driving customer sales to our client. Or you could be doing analysis of customer digital behaviour to help improve future performance online. Our projects are hugely varied so no 2 projects will be the same. Cross Office Work. We have an office in Edinburgh, London and Derby and you could be working with fellow graduate or colleague from any office discussing the latest project or new innovation. Self Development. You'll be encouraged to keep abreast of cutting-edge developments in data science and analysis that can be applied to our clients, and you could work with the wider Merkle Aquila team to help develop these into commercial offerings Qualifications Essential Skills and Experience: Maths, Stats, Operational Research or relevant degree Analytical mind-set Knowledge of SQL, R or Python Experience working with (very) large and messy datasets Excellent communication skills Excellent attention to detail Code automation and optimization Desirable: Experience of creating reports and dashboards Experience working with Teradata, SQL Server or PostgreSQL Have had exposure to cloud data storage solutions, such as Hadoop, Hive, or Google BigQuery Experience of working with Web Analytics platforms, such as Google Analytics or Adobe Insights Knowledge of SAS programming Knowledge of relational database design concepts Additional Information A few of the benefits Whether it’s the joy of working with people at the top of their game or the Merkle | Aquila social calendar, people love working here – and we hope you will too!
