AA Sakatti Mining Oy is a Finnish subsidiary of Anglo American, established in 2011, with offices and sample processing facilities located in Sodankylä. The company also has an office in Oulu. Our task is to design and implement a mine to utilise the Sakatti deposit in Sodankylä. It is located 15 kilometers north of Sodankylä. The area is partly in the Viiankiaava swamp conservation area, which is also a Natura 2000 area. In addition to the important base metals copper, nickel and cobalt, the Sakatti metal deposit contains precious metals such as platinum, palladium, gold and silver. Sakatti's metals are essential for our low-carbon society. The deposit is geologically special due to its high metal contents. Ore discoveries such as Sakatti are rare, and even globally they are only made in a few centuries.
