Business unit: Aerospace, Defense and RF Products Group (ADEF) Job Grade: E13 Hiring Manager: Jonathan Bentley ADI's Aerospace and Defense System Engineering team is seeking a senior RF & microwave system engineer to provide system level design support for European customers developing primarily, but not limited to, applications in radar, military communications and electronic warfare. The role will require a close collaboration with the Greensboro N.C based Aerospace and Defense Systems applications team. An important part of this role will encompass a design element which will include assisting in the design, development and prototyping next generation solutions for military communications, phased array radar, and wideband transceiver applications. The design process will include generating new architectures for these applications, simulation and modeling of potential solutions, contributing to reference design(s) and prototype(s) for next generation systems. Many of these designs will be centered around ADI’s GSPS converters, RF and microwave technology and RF transceivers as key enabling technologies. As a member of a small, focused team you will have opportunities to be involved with all aspects of the design process. It is expected that requirements from customers, insight into emerging market trends, together with deep technical knowledge of the applications and subject matter will all play an important part in this process. You will provide estimates and set schedules for completion of assignments; produce realistic specifications and priorities to achieve the optimal balance between customer needs and internal constraints/costs, execute project plans, anticipating potential problems and exercising priority judgments to meet project milestones. The role will include collaboration with design teams at other ADI sites and with customers, either of which will require occasional travel. Principal Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: The candidate will design and deliver to customers reference platforms for next generation military applications, these being, but not limited to, communication, radar, and wideband transceiver applications The candidate must be an expert on ADI’s high speed GSPS converters and integrated RF transceivers The candidate will be responsible for RF & microwave architecture creation and trade space analysis The candidate must have experience debugging RF signal chains, simulating cascaded performance, and taking a design through schematic and layout successfully The candidate will be expected to be a key contributor for complex development tasks and be able to provide technical leadership in multiple areas of RF, microwave, and system engineering The candidate will require the ability to understand the “big picture” of RF & microwave systems and be able to map out detailed solution from system level specifications Proposal research and preparation including cost and schedule estimates. Qualifications: BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering combined with: 8+ years of working related experience in RF & microwave design, preferably in the aerospace and defense or communications industry Strong RF & microwave design and evaluation skills Knowledge of analog, linear and mixed-signal circuit fundamentals and devices Knowledge of RF simulation tools: ADS, SystemVue, Genesys, NI AWR, etc Knowledge of RF schematic and layout tools: Cadence Allegro, Mentor PADS, etc Proficiency with engineering modelling and analysis tools is beneficial, including Matlab Exposure to electronics measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, multimeters. Exposure to project structures that enable fast design cycles: scrum, agile, spiral, etc Excellent written and verbal communications skills Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and on a team.
