Company Overview The American Action Forum (AAF) is a forward-looking, non-profit policy institute dedicated to keeping America strong, free and prosperous. Job Summary The Health Care Data Analyst will work with AAF policy experts on a variety of tasks including performing statistical analysis, modeling and developing coding; collecting and preparing data from surveys and administrative information systems; conducting literature searches; and providing project support. This position will also operate and maintain several health care microsimulation models through AAF's Center for Health & Economy. Utilizing the models, as well as health economics literature the Health Care Data Analyst will evaluate the effects of current and proposed health policy legislation, as well as provide new insight in the debate for better health care. A successful candidate will have experience coding, and be a team player who is detail oriented, comfortable finding and manipulating complex data sets. A demonstrable interest in health care policy is strongly preferred. This position will report to the Director of Health Care Policy. Responsibilities and Duties This position is responsible for AAF's health policy modeling program, and must be proactive about pursuing research and locating data sources. This position requires the ability to investigate a wide swath of relevant policy questions in order to succinctly explain key policy issues. Qualifications and Skills Degree in economics, finance, business, public policy or related field. Statistics coursework preferred. Strong quantitative skills and demonstrable expertise working with statistical packages (such as SAS, STATA, or R) is required. Proficiency with SAS is strongly preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Broad working knowledge of the U.S. health care system and health care policy is preferred but not required. Ability to multi-task and shift priorities efficiently with little notice. An interest in working for a think tank that emphasizes smaller government, sensible conservative policy solutions, and smart policy options that benefit the American public and avoid unnecessary federal government overreach.
