Please visit www.alnylam.com for more information. Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Legal Counsel to support the build out of a fast growing, innovative, multinational biopharmaceutical company. This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to join the International Legal Team supporting a growing business in the ex-US Regions of the Company, by delivering high quality and timely guidance to the Alnylam business in Central Eastern Europe (CEE) and Partner Markets (CEMEA), working closely with other members of the global Legal and Compliance organization, the regional and local Alnylam Expertise Areas and external counsels. In particular, the role is responsible for delivering high quality and timely guidance to support compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including competition law issues, commercial initiatives, market access, local regulatory requirements, as well as local business standards and industry regulations. The successful candidate will have a broad-based knowledge of laws and regulations governing biopharmaceutical companies activities and compliance, gained in another biopharmaceutical company (experience in a company focused on rare disease medicines would be a plus) or the healthcare team of a leading law firm. He or she will be result-orientated and will strongly identify with Alnylam’s values. The role will report to the Senior Legal Counsel International, based at the Company’s European Headquarters in Zug, Switzerland. Summary of Key Responsibilities Provide pragmatic and timely counsel to Country Management on local legal, compliance, transactional and commercial issues. In that regard, draft and review proposed business/legal arrangements and contracts for the relevant expertise areas in the countries of responsibility, including agreements with partners and distributors in the Partner Markets (Southeastern Europe, Turkey, Middle East and Africa); Review product related and disease awareness materials, advise on appropriate strategy and language for scientific, commercial and business documentation and communications according to local laws and Company standards, ensure local legal support to regulatory submissions, market access activities and new product launches; Assist with the management of any pending litigation for the territories of responsibility under the supervision of the Senior Legal Counsel and in collaboration with other legal team members; Provide advice and legal support on application and maintenance of all authorizations, permits, licenses, contracts and communication needed for local operations, including importation, manufacturing and marketing of products and implementation of product recalls where needed; Monitor changes and developments in the local legal and regulatory environment, keep regional/local management and other Legal and Compliance colleagues apprised of significant developments and trends; Assist regional Legal team as necessary in corporate secretarial matters and ensuring compliance with local regulatory requirements in each market, maintain all corporate records for local subsidiaries under responsibility, directly or through selected external corporate secretarial agencies, as appropriate Assist regional Compliance with the interpretation of Alnylam global, regional and local policies and procedures and help ensure compliance by local teams Travel will be required as necessary Qualifications Law Degree and license to practice law in a EU Member State (license to practice law in a CEE country preferred); 5+ years of post-qualification legal and compliance experience, in the pharmaceutical industry with proven experience in supporting Distributor/Partner Markets and the CEE Cluster of a pharmaceutical company; English and one CEE language written and spoken, additional fluency in other languages highly valued; Broad based knowledge of general corporate law and solid work experience with regulatory matters, healthcare legislation and regulations related to the promotion of pharmaceutical products and in review of promotional and non-promotional materials in the countries of responsibility; Solid judgment and business acumen and understanding of business operations, particularly in determining the significance of legal matters in the context of business objectives, assessing risks and benefits and providing innovative business and legal solutions; Enthusiastic, self-motivated and efficient, able to proactively identify short and mid-term business needs, to develop strategies and to manage responsibilities independently as well as to facilitate teamwork and to mentor and guide peers; Strong organizational skills in order to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously; Able to work accurately with an appropriate sense of urgency and function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; Strong verbal and written skills with ability to explain complex, challenging issues in a clear manner to all levels of the organization, including senior management Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively throughout all levels of the organization as well as with external parties, and adaptable to circumstances and variety of cultures Ability to manage and work with outside counsel and appropriately assess when consultation with outside counsel is appropriate Ability to maintain high level of integrity of confidential and sensitive information and credibility within the organization Alnylam Pharmaceuticals is an EEO employer committed to an exciting, diverse, and enriching work environment. #LI-AB1
