Job Description: Reporting to the Registrar (or designate), the Communications Officer serves as a day-to-day support of internal and external communication and media relations related to specific projects or initiatives. This Communications Officer - Special Projects (Student Information System) supports the overall communications goals of this business transformation project. Working closely with a Project Team and under the guidance of a full-time communications officer, this position supports all communications and change management activities in writing, material development and general coordination of communications and related activities. This is done in alignment with overall College Communications direction. Duties and Responsibilities: Communications Planning: Supports and leads the execution of identified communications plans to help achieve the goals of internal projects as requested by College departments, committees, and senior executives. Drafts announcements, memos, and presentations on behalf of the senior executive. Manages contractors, when needed, to execute departmental and corporate communications projects. Works collaboratively with teams across the College to create and execute communications plans and strategies in support of College business. Media and Events: In conjunction with Communications Officer (lead), is responsible for managing and coordinating incoming inquiries pertaining to the Student Information System Project. Displays an acute understanding and intuitive knowledge of the local and national media market: must build and maintain key relationships and must demonstrate an awareness and insight into how the media functions, and what stories and messages will resonate with identified stakeholders and audiences. Developing enterprise story ideas in consultation with key stakeholders on campus and proactively pitches Algonquin experts and exclusive story ideas to College Communications and Project Team Provides guidance and support to the Student Information System Project on Communications initiatives, prepares briefings, speeches and related as required. Maintains and supports the Student Information System Project website and related information mediums Drafts and implements media communications strategies that support the Student Information System Project and in alignment with the College's vision, mission and strategic goals Plans, writes and disseminates news releases, media advisories stories, newsletters, and public service announcements associated with the student information system project, as required Works with the College Communications office, as required, on coordination of media inquiry and response. Supports the planning, organization, and execution of College events, while taking a leadership role in communication of College events. Provides input into the strategic direction and focus of events, and prepares event proposals and outlines. Coordination and scheduling of events and ensures participation and proper briefing of key stakeholders. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Minimum two (2) year diploma in Public Relations or Communications Minimum three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, media relations or related marketing or writing experience Excellent communication skills Demonstrated proficiency in related software including but not limited to MS Office This position is paid at Payband H Comparator Vacancy is for P14333 Algonquin College values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer.
