Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is the new, wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and is ready to deliver high-quality, responsive diagnostic lab services to Albertans as a part of the provincial healthcare system. APL is the consolidation of lab services into one organization previously provided by AHS, Calgary Lab Services (CLS), Covenant Health, and Lamont Health Care Centre. Consolidating laboratory services and staff from across the province will ensure healthcare providers across Alberta are provided with faster access to lab results – leading to better patient outcomes and an enhanced patient experience. Ultimately, this will help improve the efficiency of Alberta’s lab system and the response times for results to Albertans. RFP for Community Lab Services On December 4, 2020, Alberta Health Services and Alberta Precision Laboratories issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking private-sector partners to provide community lab services across Alberta. The RFP closed on February 11, 2021 and an evaluation process is underway to assess the proposals we received. The RFP process is about finding partners that can help deliver high-quality laboratory services for all Albertans, sustainably and efficiently. Contracting of community lab services is an opportunity for innovation and potential cost savings identified by the AHS Performance Review.
