The Alberta Electric System Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We provide open and non-discriminatory access to Alberta’s interconnected power grid and also facilitate Alberta’s competitive wholesale electricity market which, in 2019, had 194 pool participants and approximately $7 Billion in annual energy transactions. The AESO is excited to offer a dynamic work experience for a student from the Information Technology (IT) Program. This position reports to the Manager, IT Service Operations and includes duties which assist IT Infrastructure and Operations staff. The incumbent will gain exposure to the latest computer technology in use at the AESO including desktop PCs, laptops, servers, networking hardware and some business applications. The position includes duties assigned from many areas within IT Operations and Support including Desktop Support, Service Desk, Network Services, Server Administration, Service Operations and Applications. The duties are many and varied and will include opportunities to work with experienced IT professionals. Although the duties are varied, they will be primarily focused in the IT Service Desk and Desktop Support areas. Accountabilities: Handling of some 1st and 2nd level IT Service Desk service requests and incidents. Customer interfacing, reporting, and incident control. Helping all IT teams with case management (escalation/triage/reporting) as required. Break fixes/user calls (identify problems and escalate to appropriate internal staff or third party vendors). Meeting room health checks. Maintaining an asset inventory (updating information and tracking down hardware). Configure, upgrade, setup, and deploy hardware and software in an office environment. Administration of Active Directory accounts, including but not limited to user information, email, and file/folder administration. Data/AD cleanup. CMDB clean up. Desktop Management. Office move assistance. Helping all other teams (e.g. Network, Server, Service Operations, and Applications) as required. You Have: Completed at least 3rd year in an IT Technical Certificate/Diploma or Computer Science/Engineering Degree or equivalent.
