Introduction and role description Global Business Services (GBS) is serving the AkzoNobel business by providing HR, IT, Finance and Procurement services to the organization. GBS has set as objective to give back time to our businesses so that they can focus more on our customers, growing their business and innovation GBS is also providing Project Management services to the organization via the Project Management Office (PMO). The GBS-PMO supports many key initiatives in the company. These initiatives are all crucial in achieving business results and need tight monitoring and reporting as well help in getting actions resolved and risks followed up. The Senior PMO / Portfolio Manager will rotate amongst assignments on a need by need basis. On average assignments vary from 6-9 months. The first assignment for this role will likely be the MSSS (marketing sales service support) roadmap, linked to the Global Process Organization Role Out in Sales & Marketing and work closely with the Global Process Architect and his team on ensuring the right processes are designed and deployed in our organization, supporting the resolution of current business issues and improving the performance of our key KPIs. Based on the assignment needs, the role of the Sr PMO / Portfolio Manager can be more a Sr Project or Program manager when appropriate. The seniority of the role will be required to manage the size and complexity of the assignments, and the seniority of the stakeholders to be engaged. Most assignments will have a cross-functional or cross-BU component, resulting in a high complex environment to navigate in. Key Objectives The Senior PMO / Portfolio Manager: Drives the identification of the portfolio of activities/projects/programs required to achieve strategic results Supports with identifying the required project resources for the portfolio of activities Has strong planning/scheduling skills to help setting up the overall milestones and interdependencies across the portfolio Increases the project management capability of the project resources assigned (e.g. by delivering training or coaching) Maintains oversight of the execution status of the agreed portfolio, to drive senior management decision making Provides project management tools and support Makes sure the project methodology is followed and templates are used Makes sure that key information is captured and documentation is available Ensures projects are evaluated, and lessons learned are captured Support Methodology development Improve methods, tools, and training for general project and portfolio management. Create and maintain collaboration environments for projects, using SharePoint or similar software Documents policies, procedures, and accelerators to be used as best practice for transition management Conduct post-transition/project reviews and works with stakeholders to identify weaknesses in the methods or plans and works with leadership to propose and create improvements.. Responsibilities The Sr PMO / Portfolio Manager develops and oversees a portfolio of activities / projects / programs / initiatives linked to a specific strategic mandate. A key role is played in the prioritization of the portfolio based on resources (e.g. budget, resources) available. Once the portfolio / roadmap has been identified and validated by the relevant senior stakeholders, the Sr PMO / Portfolio Manager plays a crucial role in the execution of the portfolio by helping to assign the right project resources and ensuring their project management capability is up to the right level (e.g. by rolling out project management training and/or coaching). The following project management areas need to be mastered very well: scope management, cost management, resource management, risk management, stakeholder management, interdependency management, change management, etc. Oversight and insight in the execution of the identified portfolio needs to be maintained, to drive decision making by senior management to increase the successful execution of the portfolio assigned driving the generation of project related benefits. Level of Autonomy High level of autonomy and independency. Complex prioritization decisions to be prepared, and driven to resolution. Alignment with relevant senior stakeholders, that often will be one level below ExCo (so executive leadership team) level., Requirements Required general skills Business Acumen: Working with diverse groups of people and skill sets Calmness and Clarity Under Pressure: Is capable of working in a fast-paced and chaotic environment with multiple personality types and not get flustered or lose self-control Positive Attitude: a positive attitude and evoke positive responses from others Execution: Mastery of project scheduling skills and use of software such as MS Project Personal Credibility & Integrity: Professional communication, presence, a high degree of integrity, and willingness/strength to do the right thing in difficult situations BS/BA degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related Analytical field required. Masters degree preferred. Bachelor degree to be compensated with larger number of relevant project related working experience. Project experience, either working in projects or programs is required English language skills need to be excellent (writing and speaking), at least one other language is preferred The following certifications are not required but very highly desired: PMI-PMP or Prince2 certification, Management of Portfolios a definite pre Six Sigma or Lean Management Certification or other process Certification in accredited CPE courses in PPPM software systems. Minimum of 9+ years of working experience, of which minimum of 5+ years of involvement (Sr)PMO/Program/Portfolio/Transition/Project management * Level of responsibility: Required: Must have participated in at least 8 projects end-to-end, with high level of independency. Desired: Experience as portfolio manager / sr PMO for a medium-large complex team/organisation * Industry experience: Desired: Experience working in mid/large complex and diverse environments Desired: Demonstrated experience with more than one industry type including consulting experience or service delivery experience. * Geographic Scope: Required: Ability to work in several locations in the Netherlands, based on the assignments need. Most likely working location will be headquarters in Amsterdam to be close to stakeholders involved. Additional offices in Sassenheim and Arnhem in the Netherlands when appropriate.
