An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Airswift Legal team, based in either our Singapore, Brisbane or Perth office. The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing comprehensive legal and compliance advice and guidance supporting the Company’s Asia Pacific operations, as well as other regions as called for on a case by case basis. As Legal Counsel, you will report to General Counsel, based in Houston, Texas; will functionally support Senior Vice President – Asia Pacific. There are significant opportunities for international travel, including overseas assignments on either a temporary or permanent basis. Key Responsibilities Providing practical legal advice to management and operations regarding legal issues and risks. Reviewing and negotiating staffing agreements, master service agreements and similar commercial agreements (customer and vendor contracts), while ensuring agreements accurately reflect commercial decisions and are consistent with Company’s legal guidelines and policies. Identifying, assessing and prioritizing legal risks in Company’s contracting activities Business partnering with regional leadership to manage country-specific risks. Overseeing and managing legal claims and litigation, including instructing and managing external counsel as required. Supporting Company’s compliance program to ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures and providing training to employees to help ensure understanding of and compliance with such policies and procedures. Applying effective risk management techniques and offering proactive advice on possible legal issues. Managing lease expiry, renewal and negotiations for regional offices. Maintaining/managing local insurance program. Keeping current on relevant areas of law, particularly labor and employment law, and contributing to the enhancement of the knowledge base of Company’s legal function. Undertaking general corporate legal assignments including the establishment/liquidation of legal entities; maintenance of the associated legal documentation. Managing and developing the Regional Contracts Coordinator and acting as a back up to support contract reviews, particularly for large scale bids or tenders. Flexibility in working hours (i.e. the role requires non-core hours communication from time to time). Could you be our new Legal Counsel? Minimum Requirements Law degree and minimum of five (5) years’ experience in large law firm and/or in-house legal department. Admitted to recognized bar association or court of law; Experience in commercial law, labor and employment law required; staffing industry experience a plus. Commitment to high ethical standards Ability/willingness to travel - Infrequent travel may be required across Asia Pacific Key Functional Skills Self-starter with excellent analytical organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and business units at all levels within Company. Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues. Ability to multi-task and handle highly confidential information. Willingness and confidence to manage projects independently and ability to follow through. Ability to plan and carry out strategic initiatives. Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within Company’s legal department and across all businesses. Demonstrated experience in handling labor and employment-related claims, preferably within Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, China, Australia and PNG. Familiarity with legal issues relating to the staffing industry generally. Familiarity with data privacy issues and related legislation.
