Acquia is co-founded by CTO Dries Buytart, the original creator and project lead for Drupal, an open source platform for building websites and digital experiences. I’ll never forget the story Dries told me about Acquia’s founding. He was simply amazed that a brand like MTV called him out of the blue for support of their new Drupal site. Because of this, it became clear to him that for Drupal to grow, it needed a company focused on helping large organizations like MTV be successful with the software. From there, our journey as a company started when Dries and Jay Batson recognized that open source projects such as Linux had benefited from well-capitalized backers like Red Hat and IBM. It was this commitment to the open source community that has driven the overall success of Acquia and has created an overall community impact on our global culture.
